Meet the Artist
I began my art career in a most unusual way. While working as a Mechanism and Optics Engineer at Cal Tech's renowned Jet Propulsion Laboratory(JPL) in Pasadena, California, I participated in an employee art show. My 13 exhibited paintings sold out immediately. Although I had just begun my career in engineering, I opted to also develop and market my art.
I remember always drawing something. It didn’t matter what it was. Raised in Detroit, Michigan, I ended up working for General Motors as a Model Maker, following my father’s footsteps. Eventually, I moved to Southern California to further my education. I earned a degree in mechanical engineering at Cal Poly University.
However, I couldn't resist also enrolling in painting classes. Studying with New England artist Benjamin McGrath, I became a keen observer of nature. I somehow learned to recreate the special light and atmosphere unique to California‘s coastal regions. But I also began to explore how science could be applied to the artistic principles of an inspired artist. I developed a distinct style I call “Designed Realism”. My paintings draw out the strength in nature with a sense of peace.
